Orbital, founded by e-scooter entrepreneur Euwyn Poon and backed by a16z Speedrun, is designing satellites each carrying a small cluster of NVIDIA GPU servers, solar powered and radiatively cooled, with capacity sold for AI inference. It has raised a pre-seed round, opened an R&D facility and filed with the FCC for a very large constellation. It has launched nothing; its first demonstration satellite is planned for 2027 at the earliest.
Ecosystem functionAn inference-first entrant that starts from a commercial multi-GPU satellite rather than a science demonstration, betting the market is capacity sales not onboard sensor processing.
